On 2 November 2020 Emmet County clerk Suzanne Kanine stated that
the above Daunt v Secretary of State and County Clerks case has been dismissed.
Nothing has been reported to that effect in the local paper at this point.
Even with only 22,307 Total Votes Cast on Election Day, however...
With the numbers noted above, it is a fact that Emmet County's registered voters roll is highly inflated.
Just address the problem!!!
Clean up the voters roll.

During the 21 January 2021 ECBOC meeting, the fee of .03 cents/name for the cost of a voter list was approved.
Any amount of fee exemplifies the simple logic of an inflated voters roll being a money maker for the county!

Articles Below Left and Right: Mrs. Ethel Rowan Fasquelle, pioneer of the city, presented the City Council with a bell her father rang at elections in the early days of Petoskey. The council accepted the bell, and would turn it over to the Historical Commission for addition to the city's historical collection.

The 2020 National Election brought turmoil, and distrust, of the entire election system. In Emmet County Tera Jackson, 56, of Petoskey, was sentenced to three months of probation on one count of disturbing the peace after she was originally brought up on charges of common law fraud and two counts of aiding and abetting the unauthorized access of a computer. Jackson supposedly was motivated by unverified claims of election fraud in the 2020 election. Her 14 January 2022 ploy to break into the Cross Village voting machine computer, included technician Allan Coveyou, and township officers Howard Wood and Diane Keller, and former township clerk Priscillla Sweet. No one other than Jackson had been arrested by 16 March 2022. It was not made clear to the public as to what transpired, so even the Unitarian Universalist Church of Petoksey board members contacted the Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel to do further investigation of the entire situation.

prior to the November 2022 Primary Election.
Again, the public voters were quite perceptive, and placed Jonathan Scheel in only third place.
During the 20 October 2022 ECBOC meeting, a member of the public brought forth an issue with a teacher being allowed to serve as a commissioner, referencing Public Act 169 of 1976, section 15.403. As of 19 November 2022, NOTHING has been publicly stated by the county administrator in response to this assertion, based on law. In a telephone conversation between myself and the county administrator, I was told that the county's attorney had written her opinion that this referred public act does not apply to Emmet County's situation. I then was told that if I wanted to see the attorney's opinion, I would have to make a FOIA request. I easily could do that, but it seems that the county's administrator, and any/all of the county commissioners would have made a public statement regarding this important issue which had been publicly announced and questioned. So much for transparency. ~ Karla Buckmaster

~ SUFFRAGISTS ~
In 1914 a Monster Suffragists Rally was being held in Washington.
On 6 November 1918 women gained the right to vote in all local and state elections. It was two years later 26 November 1920 that Michigan's women earned the right ot vote in federal elections. That was the historic day in 1920 that the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified; allowing every woman of voting age in the country to go to the polls. The voting rights came after 131 years in United States history with hard work by women for their voting rights to be established.
The Suffrage Movement was active in the years before 1918 when the voting goal finally was attained. For instance, in the 1916 article below it notes: A Susan B. Anthony Tea was held in a tent at the Petoskey home of Mrs. Alick Rosenthal and Mrs. Zilla Goldstein. Mrs. Stone one of the "faithful" local pioneer suffragists, gave the invocation and blessings. Mrs. Lomain gave a recitation. Mrs. H. Sweeny, in her charming manner gave the life history and work of Susan B. Anthony, associated with the Temperance union [WCTU]; and Anthony along with Cady Stanton organized the National Women's Suffrage association in 1874. Mrs. J. McCune told how she personally had met Miss Anthony. "Mrs. James Oldham, in her able and gracious way, gave a resume of the suffrage work done in Emmet county, bringing out how the Petoskey federation felt the need of getting into the rank and file of state work."

Frances (Webb) Oldham
Frances (Webb) Oldham
Frances was married to James Oldham, a Petoskey businessman who owned a leather and harness store on East Mitchell Street. One of their three children was Arthur Lacy Oldham, in the photo above, who married Isabel (Wood) Oldham. I have found that James Oldham was first married to Jessie B. Eldridge who died at about 27 years old. Jessie's tombstone photo is on the Greenwood Cemetery site. Jessie died 19 March 1896 following a long illness.
Records show that on 23 December 1896 James Oldham married Frances Maybell Webb. They then divorced 14 April 1932 with both continuing to live in Petoskey.
