The header photo (same as photo below) is a collage of
some of Northern Lower Michigan's recognizable signs, each painted by Ray Lewis
who was a talented Petoskey designer, creator, and painter of MANY local area Signs of the Times!
In the mid 1990s Ray's grandson Jim Duncan began a photograph collection of Ray's signs...
finding many pictures in family photo albums, and the Petoskey News Review.

"One by one, the links that bind us to the past are broken."
Article Segment Above: Already in 1882 Petoskey was seeing "change with time" as the 4 April 1882 entire article recalled the demolition of "The old building on the beach which was erected as a trading post nearly thirty years ago, and which has been used as a store, county jail, residence, printing office, boat house, cooper shop and depot, has at last succumbed to fate, and the ceaseless march of progress." Thankfully, in today's age, technology and the internet allow for the PRESERVATION of the "changes with time" in the march of progress in Northern Michigan... LEST WE FORGET!

almost identically, the same area and vantage as in the 1936 photo.

UPDATE: Possibly, the picture above has been located in the office/museum of Camp Petosega where the following photo was taken 13 May 2023. The frame appears to be identical, with even the slight mark to the right of the "1857" in the description at the bottom seems to be the same. The Michigan Maple Block letter above right, however, still is not located.
